nnnMeeting
with Corps of Engineers Officials
(L
to R) Hickman-Fulton County Riverport Director Doug Goodman, Chamber of
Commerce Director "Baby Doll" Yarbro, Memphis Corps of Engineers
representatives Dennis Abernathy and Larry Sharpe, along with HRTCC Chairman
Charles Choate.
A
meeting was held at the Hickman Riverport office to discuss a pending
project of enhancement to the Hickman Harbor and flood wall. Corps of
Engineers officials presented designs and costs analysis of the proposed
project. Included in the project is a walkway atop the entire length of
the Hickman flood wall, a new boat ramp at Elvis J. Stahr Jr. Harbor, three
handicap lifts and
other enhancements. Also attending the meeting were representatives of the
City of Hickman, Fulton County Fiscal Court, and Hickman Boating Club
members, Vercel Bryant and Glen Jones. It is hoped that
funds can be obtained to make this project a reality in the not too distant
future. The Corps will have to receive approval and cost sharing and a
project of this magnitude will probably not get funded in the very
near future.

Carnegie Pavilion

The new Carnegie
Pavilion is in place on "The Bluff" behind the Hickman Chamber of Commerce
office, the Hickman Public Library and east of the Harold "Red" Coffey
Memorial Park. The Pavilion is a great place to sit and read a book, have
lunch, hold family events, or just enjoy the beautiful view. The public is
encouraged to come by and visit the area and enjoy this new feature in our
community. The Pavilion was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the
City of Hickman. The G. O. L. D. grant was executed by Martha Campbell,
Director of the Community Development Department. Her expertise and
experience were vital for the final appearance of this picturesque addition
to the bluff area Much of the labor and materials were donated
by local businesses and the inmates at the Fulton County Detention Center,
Rick Parnell, Jailer.
